Odessa I – Second Day, opposite Basarnaja Ul 16

Tach,

It’s very foggy this morning. So fiddle around, drink coffee, dawdle. Then the weather improves and downstairs I took some pictures of the street and a courtyard.

Two things. Yes there are beautiful parts of the city, postcard views but they are also not yet like that in the fog, rain and gray spring. So wait until next time. One thing for sure. Trash and rot can be cool but I certainly wont move here to spend 6 months in a rocked out part of the city. That would drive even me crazy.
I almost said I’m now living in normal ruins but if you’re not in the absolute newly built up area, then unfortunately, ruin is the standard here. I can seek out the better version of that.

Another thing is that I always feel a bit foolish when I just go into a courtyard and start snapping photos. I’m not in an open-air facility, in a zoo. People do have their dignity. I always observe strangely how all day long people of all age groups – I initially thought only pensioners – no, also young people search trash containers for useful things. I didn’t look at this directly. They always carry large plastic bags and stuff what they find into them. What that is I don’t know and I don’t photograph it. But if I photograph a building’s exterior, can’t I enter? Isn’t that the same?
Photos are all taken in Basarnaja Uliza, where I lived first for a few days.

Please note my beloved mailboxes:

That’s all folks
